Yeh, Let’s Make Flying a More Unpleasant Experience!

The Federal Communications Commission is going to propose that passengers be allowed to use their cell phones on airplanes. This is a horrible idea, right up there with
wearing a ski mask into a bank branch or putting mayonnaise on French fries.

The use of mobile phones when the plane is comfortably cruising above the clouds apparently shows no evidence of a safety threat, but why allow it? If this passes, you can bet I’ll only fly those airlines that don’t jump on the “let the numbskulls talk” bandwagon. Delta Airlines has already said they will never allow it. I now no longer have the Delta blues.

Do you really need to conduct business via a phone conversation during a flight? When interviewing people, Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post asks the question, “How do you unplug?” Her reasoning is that “people are eager to show employers how they’ll work themselves to the bone. That’s not good for them or the company.” Use flight time to unplug, read a book or think strategically without interruption.

Isn’t it enough that we have to perform a juggling act and disrobe at the security checkpoint? With a tip of the hat to Simon & Garfunkel, I vote for the sound of silence!
